Sensors to Ensure Safe Distancing at Airports

In a bid to ensure safe distancing in the wake of COVID-19, Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport has partnered with Xovis to install over 500 overhead ceiling sensors to monitor passenger movement. The Passenger Tracking System (PTS) uses sensor technology to accurately identify areas where the distancing norms are being flouted, risking passenger safety. 200 marshals and ground personnel are immediately alerted in case of violations to facilitate remedial action.

Besides calculating passenger density, the sensors also record passenger count, wait time, and process time, among other key indicators. The move comes in anticipation of greater passenger load as travel restrictions begin to ease.
